Cappadocia: Goreme Open-Air Museum - Tokali Kilise

The Tokali Church (10th and 11th Century) is the biggest church in the Open-Air Museum. It has two main chambers and two smaller chapels (one underground). Inside the church are frescoes showing the life of Christ.

If you look closely, many of the faces have been scratched off.

Washing of Feet (according to map and description above).

This fresco shows the Virgin Mary holding Baby Jesus. It is different from the rest because usually in the frescoes Jesus is depicted with a halo or on a crucifix. Not everyone believes in his ascension and so some people call him Jesus, not Jesus Christ.
