Cappadocia Continued: The Green Tour - Ilahra Valley

So, during the afternoon we went to Ihlara Valley. It was an easy hike, but we didn't do the full trail (which takes about seven to eight hours). We hiked for about two hours before eating lunch at the restaurant at Belisirma.

The Ilhara Valley is really a canyon.

Within the canyon are a number churches which were built during Byzantine times and were carved out of the rock walls.

Inside the churches are frescoes. Similar to the other frescoes I posted the religious figures have had their eyes scratched off.

Some of the amazing rocks which have eroded away from the canyon walls over time.

These trees look like hands with fingers.

Also carved in the canyon walls are pigeon houses. There are hundreds, maybe thousands of these lining the canyon.
